Meniscus RootRepair
Critical procedure to save the knee from rapid arthritis.
Meniscus Root Repair
A meniscus root tear is a severe injury where the ligament anchor detaches from the bone, causing the meniscus to 'extrude' or squirt out of the joint. Dr. Ravi Teja specializes in the 'Transtibial Pull-Out' repair—a meticulous technique involving the release of scar tissue, decortication of the bony bed, and the placement of high-tensile sutures. These sutures are pulled through a precise 5mm tunnel and secured over a cortical button, restoring the joint's shock-absorbing capacity and preventing the rapid progression toward 'post-meniscectomy' osteoarthritis.
Surgical Process
Adhesion Release
Isolating the root and releasing it from scar tissue to ensure it can be repositioned without tension.
Bony Bed Prep
Performing decortication of the tibial plateau to create a healthy environment for root-to-bone healing.
Pull-Out Fixation
Passing at least two self-capturing sutures through the root and securing them via a transtibial tunnel to a cortical button.

Recovery Roadmap
Strict non-weightbearing for 6 weeks is mandatory. Range of motion is limited to 0-90° for the first 4 weeks. Activities like squatting or sitting cross-legged are restricted for 5-6 months to protect the healing anchor.
Who Needs This Procedure?
Patients with a meniscus root detachment causing the tissue to 'extrude' or pop out
Individuals experiencing a sudden 'pop' in the back of the knee during squatting
Patients with severe pain during deep knee bending despite a stable joint
